english research project

Assignment
1. Brainstorming sheet: what questions do you have after reading your book? Think of the political, social, gender issues etc...
2. Begin your research to determine 6 GOOD research questions. Use the SRT Library  website for your topic links. Your 6th question must make a modern connection to the topic (ex. What is happening there now?  How have things changed?)  Your questions may change as you work through the project.
3. Fill in your research booklet with key words and phrases

3. Include all of the resources you have used for your research. You must use at least THREE SOURCES and ONE of the sources MUST be a PRINT source.

The Research Essay
Present your information in a multi-paragraph MLA format. You will need an introduction, 6 body paragraphs (one to address each of your research questions) to present your research, and a concluding paragraph. Each body paragraph should be approx. 7-8 sentences. Look at the rubric attached for clarification.

Research Topics
Your essay does not make any direct connection to your Lit Circle novel. You are formulating questions that have arisen as a result of the novel you have read.

  1. A Thousand Splendid Suns/The Kite Runner - politics, women, the Taliban,  Soviet take over, then and now
  2. Forgotten Fire -100 years later, controversy
  3. The Things They Carried -PTSD, the draft/draft dodgers, why join the war?
  4. The Book Thief - Holocaust, German citizens, Hitler youth
  5. Memoirs of a Geisha - History, traditions, modern connections
  6. From the Ashes - addiction, homelessness, rehabilitation, Metis culture

****REMEMBER…THIS IS YOUR TERM ESSAY WORTH 40%****
If you plagiarize, you will receive a 0.  If you don't reference / cite your information this is also considered plagiarism.
